I found myself at a dinner party the other day with an exclusively female crowd. We talked about everything six girls would talk about, including football. Now, one of my friends talked so passionately about football that this behavior provoked some of the princesses around the round table. Yes more passionately than I talk about Balenciaga’s shoe collection, any season. Before continuing I must add that the discussion was strictly game analyzing and did not contain any valuation of certain players visual impact on us.
When my friend started talking about some team’s defense line, one of the princesses was stunned! “I don’t understand, since when do women watch football?”. Time froze. Oh no, it’s a medieval woman. I think I looked at her like Superman does that thing with the red laser, hoping she would start burning.
Are people living under rocks, they don’t know that a female actually can enjoy watching football, for other reasons than looking for a potential inseminator? I’ve heard that woman are lucky enough to be liberated from the adrenal medulla, so our bodies can’t produce adrenalin nor do we have an instinct to win. The only instinct we have is the mother instinct and the only thing we can produce is babies. And big shopping bills.
Yes, obviously I get very upset by this generalization of women, and it’s so sad when it comes from the same team, if I may use that word. I have been watching football since I could see, and so has my mother and her mother, and I even remember being a kid sitting with my mother’s grandma (yes we have very good genes) watching a game. As far as football goes, I guess it has been running in my family since, well since football was invented.

You really don’t need to be gifted to wrap your head around the science of football, it’s very simple. Maybe that’s what it is. Maybe this girl sees herself and womanhood as something so complex, that we possibly couldn’t be bothered to be entertained by a simple thing like a ball being kicked into a net. Well guess then we who enjoy football are simple people, easy to satisfy, no matter if we are born with a penis between our legs or not.
Speaking of penis between the legs, thank god for this month of the world cup and something else for the main topic. If I have to analyze another break-up or knock-up or relationship or talk about my non existing one I will put a bullet in my head.
