She created boots for Emir Kusturica movie and her shoes are worn by many celebrities and public figures. Her shoe brand is called “LILU”, and she is Danijela Biskup, Serbian shoe designer.
Danijela graduated at the College of Fine Arts in Belgrade and started as a shoe designer for company “Solo” where she learnt greatly about technology and production. Belgrade firm “Solo” won gold and silver awards for women’s shoes five times in a row at the Belgrade Fashion Fair. Over the past ten years Danijela created footwear for the most famous fashion designers at the Belgrade Fashion Week. Danijela is one of the founders of the Fashion Studio “IDENTITY“, together with Jelena and Svetlana Prokovic, clothes designers.
Lilu is the role Mile Jovovich plays in stunning Luke Besson movie “The Fifth Element”. Lilu is beautiful, modern, powerful, smart, emotional, great woman – exactly a woman who should wear my shoes, Danijela explains.
The design sketch is the most beautiful part of the work while production and execution are incredibly difficult part, especially when you want to create a unique or small series. At the end of the process selling becomes the real challenge for every designer, proving at the same time your creation and efforts have genuine value.
The most important thing is that footwear is made from quality materials. Leather is best because it is the most comfortable for shoes. Usually when we buy shoes, we all first look in the mirror, but most important is that the shoes are comfortable. The best advice would be to try a few, walk a bit and don’t keep your eyes closed for comfort. Visual impression is important, but not the most important when it comes to shoes.
LOOKING UP TO
I do not have role models in the sense that I follow someone. My horoscope sign is Aries, the first sign, the leader. I’m usually the ice breaker and the others followed me. From famous designers my favorites are Tom Ford, Dirk Bikkembergs, Christian Lacroix, Alain Miucia Tandowski and Prada for Miu-Miu.
My favorite fashion era is Baroque, when talking about the distant past, and and the seventies of the 2oth Century. My inspiration comes from past times, because in fashion you can go only in two ways: either be an innovator or start from something that has already been done and then add your personal touch to it. This is direction I have chosen.
OPINIONS and ACHIEVEMENTS
Probably everyone expects that I look at somebodies shoes first. I honestly try not to do it because it could be embarrassing sometimes. As a designer you could evaluate people on how they’re dressed, but I prefer to see someone has a good sense to combine, match and wear something with style.
I am happy to see that women who wear my models are from 15 to 75 years old and many of them are famous celebrities in Serbia and ex Yugoslavia. This is great achievement for every designer.
