NEW LOOK: Real People Campaign 2011

New Look’s latest advertising campaign sees real people taking centre stage as opposed to the regular models seen in such fashion shoots.  Looking to bring the girl from next door to the forefront of the campaign, one lucky lady from the Middle East will be offered the chance to star in the next campaign.

Everyday girls and boys have been scouted from the streets and New Look stores across the UK, and for the first time ever, someone from the Middle East region will be handpicked to join the line up as a New Look girl in the UK-shot campaign taking place this summer.

On Thursday 9 June, Friday 10 June and Saturday 11 June, New Look will be hosting casting sessions, to find the brand’s own fresh talent, in three different malls across Dubai. Thursday’s will take place in Mirdif City Centre, Friday’s in Dubai Marina Mall and Saturday’s in the Oasis Centre.

New Look will be inviting style savvy ladies aged 18 – 40 and regardless of colour, size or nationality, to come along between 2pm and 10pm to strut their stuff and strike a pose. The winning woman chosen to represent the Middle East will be jet setting to London the first week of July to shoot the campaign which will appear in New Look store windows, international glossy magazines and billboards across the UK and internationally.

The “real” New Look models used so far in the campaign, launched just last month, have come in every shape, from size 6 to 16, with each of the girls and boys being chosen for their distinct style and attitude; everyday style icons walking the streets. It is hoped the campaign will inspire people to be proud of their individual style and embrace fashion, shedding the stereotypical image of what a catwalk or clothes model should look like.

Miles Young, general manager of Landmark International, New Look’s retail partner in the Middle East, said: ‘We are very excited about New Look’s new advertising campaign. And delighted that New Look has chosen to incorporate someone living in the Middle East into the ‘Real People’ campaign, we are looking forward to selecting the girl next door from the region who loves our brand and can inspire others with her own unique style.  I hope the campaign continues for seasons to come!’

Calling all ladies who love all things fashion, New Look is looking for a woman with unique flair, individual style and positive energy.  Is this you?

STERLING STYLE ACADEMY: Becoming a Styling Expert

Last weekend I had a pleasure to attend one of the Sterling Style Academy courses about colors, styling and shopping. It was a girlie weekend devoted to learning theory behind harmony and good image. Sonia, Ferosa and I had so much fun!

I loved the eye sharpening part and it felt really good learning the facts behind the pure intuition and feelings that we are driven by.

The most amusing was cutting the magazines, sorting colors in categories and dressing up celebrities according to their color code. I felt like little girl again, playing the popular “dress up Mizza” game that consisted of cutting clothes for a paper doll called Mizza.

Dramatic combinations were my specialty and the most difficult thing was to find a man dressed in romantic style. No wonder romantic guys are so hard to find, somebody must tell them they’re needed!

So, if you need help to learn what is your own color code, which colors you should wear, what to buy and which pieces from your closet to discard, drop me a line:

SOLD: Jimmy Choo Bought by Labelux

Luxury goods group Labelux has bought Jimmy Choo. Although official figures have not yet been released, it is thought to have been sold for £525.5 million. The label’s former owners TowerBrook originally purchased the company for £225 million in 2007.

“I am immensely proud of all we have achieved over the last 15 years and delighted we are to be part of Labelux, a partner [that] I know shares our values and passion and [that] seeks ambitious growth in the luxury industry,” Mellon toldWWD. “This is wonderful news for the women who are, or who aspire to become, part of the Jimmy Choo lifestyle.”

Labelux, which also owns Bally, plans to help the footwear brand expand in Asia – a fast-developing market.

“Labelux is really complementary to Jimmy Choo with its focus on luxury fashion, accessories and jewellery,” said Jimmy Choo ceo Joshua Schulman. “We look forward to partnering with them on our [aggressive] growth plans.”

DUBAI’S FASHION HOTELS: Facts or Fiction

These days Dubai is in the center of fashion attention. Stories about fashion hotels and celebrities are flying around making us wonder which part of it is true… Or all of it is just a good old marketing trick.

Famous hotel heiress Paris Hilton is in town as we speak, hosting OKKU‘s second birthday and doing photo-shoots for local fashion magazines. It is really the last moment for Paris to stop partying and get her hands on designing.

At the same time Michel Adam, president of Fashion TV signed an agreement for a hotel project with Mohammed Al Habtoor, Vice-Chairman and CEO of Al Habtoor Group. The five-star hotel‘s exterior will broadcast Fashion TV highlights round the clock via 100-meter LED screen.

The 200 rooms will be equipped with the most sophisticated technologies, will have access to Fashion TV’s 30 channels, as well as to the biggest Fashion DVD library in the world, offering 50,000 DVDs on the history of fashion. It will also include a wide variety of restaurants, lounges, nightclubs, spas and cinemas.

Then just a couple of months ago the ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum personally wrote to Victoria Beckham and supposedly offered her jaw-dropping £25 million to design a luxury ‘fashion hotel’ at the Isla Moda (one of the World islands). Her decision is still unknown, but since she’s expecting a fourth baby while being busy with her own fashion label I seriously doubt it.

And finally, Elie Saab famous Lebanese designer will design a boutique hotel bearing his name at the Tiger Woods Dubai complex in Dubailand. “The interiors will be a reflection of my personal lifestyle,” said Saab. The AED 600 million hotel will include 89 suites, 14 bungalows and a 10,000 sq. ft. swimming pool. His associate on the job will be no one else but Brad Pitt! He doesn’t have any architectural education yet, but “architecture and design are his lifelong love” (I always knew he was the one for me!)

After Versace, Armani, Gucci, Christian Lacroix and Bvlgari I can’t see how Dubai can get any better!

MOSCHINO TRUNK SHOW: Pre-Fall Collection at Bloomingdale’s Dubai Mall

Last night MOSCHINO CHEAP AND CHIC trunk show was a true joy for the eyes.

Pre-Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection is simply wonderful! Stripes, dots, colorful stockings, perfectly cut dresses and rain coats, fantastic details of beads, buttons and stitched-on purses left us amazed.

Shoes…patent mid heel with flower detail in black and red color would be in the “must have” category, but the other styles would not be my cup of tea…

Prevailing colors, my favorite – red, green, black and white of course.

This collection will be available from August at Bloomingdale’s department store in Dubai Mall.
