DEBUT COLLECTION: Jimmy Choo for Men

Fusing modern British style with luxurious Italian craftsmanship, the debut men’s collection has a mod aesthetic with a hint of 1960s Mayfair playboy. A perfect balance between classic and rock’n’roll, the men’s collection is focused but versatile, with a wide range of styles including lace-ups, monk straps, loafers, side-zip boots and even evening slippers. Rugged, masculine boots such as Chelsea boots and bikers are also on offer. Sneakers are detailed in luxurious fabrics such as grey flannel and suede.


MR PORTER, the online retail destination for men’s style, will be launching the first men’s footwear collection from Jimmy Choo this July.

The MR PORTER offering will include exclusive brown suede Oxfords – a modern interpretation of the four-hole Oxford lace-ups – loafers, minimal and modern monk-strap boots, practical, all-English Chelsea boots, and discrete sneakers in grey flannel, luxuriously lined in shearling.

COLLECTION PREVIEW: Giorgio Armani AW11, Mall of the Emirates

Last Tuesday June 21st, an exclusive preview of Giorgio Armani Autumn / Winter 2011 Pre-Fall collection was held at the Fashion Dome of Mall of the Emirates, within his Giorgio Armani boutique.

The trunk show offered us a first look at some of the creations from the Milan catwalk, highlighting 42 looks from both Women’s and Men’s ready to wear.

The Giorgio Armani Pre-Fall collection for Autumn Winter 2011/12 adopts an elegant and minimal style that sees the return of the tailored suit, the season’s ‘must have’ essential to meet every occasion.

Modern and chic, teaming simply cut, restrained short jackets with trousers fitted at the hip, flaring at the hem and in an unexpected length, or alternatively with softer, classically Armani trousers, revisited in a contemporary key.

There is something of a ‘boudoir’ mood with an intimate charm about the choice of colours, in a palette that favours plain colours in dark shades from grey to brown, and neutrals, with options in a sophisticated bois de rose, sometimes glimpsed peeping out from inside the jackets.

The sensual eveningwear includes dresses with bodices that reveal bare shoulders, perfectly balanced by long skirts drawn in at the hem, or short skirts to just above the knee.

FOOTWEAR DESIGNER TO WATCH: Victoria Spruce

Victoria Spruce is an upcoming footwear designer, inspired by modern architecture and sculpture.

Victoria studied footwear design at the infamous Cordwainers College achieving a 1st class BA(Hons) Degree in 2008. Since graduating she has worked as a footwear designer within the industry and has now begun her Masters degree at Royal College of Art, due to graduate in 2010.

Victoria Spruce designs shoes to be piece of sculpture in their own right, yet understands that they still need to be commercially viable and super sexy. Currently using her time at Royal College of Art to develop her skills even further, on completion Victoria plans to begin her own brand of fabulous women’s shoes… a name to watch out for in the future…

FASHION DESIGNER TO WATCH: Karolina Gniewek of Poca & Poca

Karolina Gniewek is a beautiful young and talented fashion designer, working between her homeland Poland and Dubai where she lives now.

Here clothing brand Poca & Poca, that we have already blogged about, is a true breeze of fresh air in this desert of ours.

Last Monday, 20th June, Karolina and Dora from The Fashion Network threw relaxing afternoon event to showcase new Poca & Poca Mademoiselle line, exclusively for Dubai’s fashion bloggers.

The Mademoiselle collection is represented by rich silk jumpsuits and long pleated pants in pastel collors for all year round. You can choose between temperate style that can be combined with various accessories and more prominent one with round golden buttons offering instant total look, as Karolina likes to say.

The venue was stylish O-concept boutique, cafe, galery… and we couldn’t have been hosted better – lovely people, beautiful clothes, charming store ineriors, cake, coffe and fresh juice.

GREAT DESIGNER IN DUBAI: Kenzo Takada at the Launch of EMODELS

Amika, trendy night out place in Monarch Dubai hotel that we’ve already blogged about, hosted the world-famous Japanese designer, Kenzo Takada last Saturday 18th June 2011 at the exclusive launch of the EMODELS modeling agency. The event was attended by the city’s most stylish socialites, members of the media and fashion savvy professionals and is set to become a regular event on the Dubai social calendar.

The globally acclaimed designer traveled to Dubai to support the launch of EMODELS with his former Kenzo modeling prodigy Alexandre Montez, Founder and Director of EMODELS.

Mr Montez worked as a model for the Kenzo brand between 1998 and 2000, helping launch Kenzo collections around the world from Paris to New York.

“Fashion and travel was my passion from an early age and Kenzo gave me an opportunity to embrace that very early in my career. With EMODELS, I am hoping to find the next generation of talent. Kenzo was hugely supportive to me and I’d like to give the next generation the opportunities to flourish in this most competitive of industries.” said Mr. Montez

EMODELS Modeling Agency will provide access to premium models across the UAE, portfolio management and casting videos online. The agency already has a roster of 500 models currently and will be looking to expand its operations and its talent base significantly over the next 12 months. The agency is looking to find the next ‘face’ to represent the brand and will be hosting regular events at Amika throughout the remainder of the year.

Kenzo was born in Himeji, Japan in 1939 and over the last forty years founded the internationally renowned Kenzo brand, by developing a global design house including perfumes, skincare products and clothes. He retired from the brand in 1999 to focus on new endeavors.
