As any woman will know, finding perfect outfit is only half of the battle. Whether it`s a sharp suit for that important interview or a pretty dress for a friend`s wedding, we all know that what you put on your feet can make or break your outfit. Choosing your perfect shoe style is not as easy as you would think and with so many styles, colours and fabrics to choose from, it`s no wonder us girls have a reputation for hoarding stacks of footwear in our closets!
The first step to finding your perfect pair is to think about the occasion you will be wearing them at. If it`s a big night out, then those six-inch heels you`ve been eyeing up in the shop window may be just the ticket, but may not go down so well at your nephew`s christening. Think about how long you will need to be on your feet too. Whilst we all like to have a little lift to lengthen our legs and slim our figures, if you are likely to be standing around all day, you don`t want to end up in pain or barefooted. With so many gorgeous flats around at the moment, the old adage of `no pain no gain` really does seem to have had its day.

If you will be mostly inside or if the event is during the summer season, sandals or open toed shoes are a stylish and comfortable choice. If you don`t fancy high heels, the Gladiator sandal has to be the answer to your prayers. Maxi dresses look fabulous with Gladiator flats if you are tall enough to carry it off, but check the length of your dress first and opt for a kitten heel if there is any danger of tripping over the hem.

For smart occasions such as interviews or conferences, a line and pencil skirt is still a popular choice to give you an air of femininity whilst also showing that you do mean business. Keep away from sandals and very high heels with these though, as they can end up looking a bit cheap. Instead, go for some simple court shoes or a pair of calf height boots for that woman in charge look. If you have slender legs, the current trend for shoe boots will give you a greater range of work wear styles to choose from, but avoid wearing them with a skirt if your legs are slightly chunky as they cut off the slimmest part of your leg and can end up making you look dumpy.

Once you have selected your style, go for a colour and texture that complements your outfit. If you want to be daring you could introduce a bold colour at your feet, such as bright red shoes with a black dress, but choose a matching accessory such as jewellery or a hair clip to tie the outfit together.
