My latest exciting discovery is beautiful Monika Chiang and her fabulous sense of fashion. Here’s a little story about her and her design…
Monika Chiang’s eponymously named collection debuted in the Fall of 2011. The impeccably curated collection includes apparel, handbags, shoes and jewelry with a distinctly Monika Chiang perspective. The launch was followed by the opening of stores in Los Angeles and New York City.
Designed as a reflection of the designer’s own signature style, the collection evokes a modern glamour steeped in an elegant nonchalance. Seemingly disparate and contradictory sensibilities combine in the most unexpected ways – deep sensuality and confidence exist alongside a subtle vulnerability, the softness of feathers set against steely metal studs, bursts of rich pigment mingled with soft earth tones and tough black leather paired with sensual sheer knits. That finely wrought tension is at the heart of the MONIKA CHIANG brand.
Monika’s sense of style was influenced by her extensive travels throughout Europe and Asia with her globetrotting artist mother and her two siblings. She discovered at a young age that she had a natural talent for fashion styling and was often called upon to make over friends &ndash helping them to amplify their personal style and push the boundaries in chic new ways. Before launching her own collection, Monika was instrumental in the success of such New York hotspots as Double Seven and Lotus. She soon caught the attention of the fashion elite who frequented these chic venues and became a muse for several top designers. Monika ultimately decided to channel these experiences into a lifestyle collection of her own.
“I set about designing my collection to empower any woman to dress with confidence and feel comfortable, without sacrificing an ounce of style,” Monika explains. “I wanted to create beautiful statement pieces with unexpected details that can be paired in a variety of ways to achieve a fresh take each time you get dressed.”
