As you may have guessed from my lack of ‘confessions’ recently a lot has been happening in my world. Firstly I moved back to the UK nearly a month ago, after spending just under a year in the baking hot desert that is Dubai. Interestingly getting my shoe collection back from Dubai was a little more work than getting it out there in the first place, as I seem to have acquired some sixteen extra pairs! Secondly as you may imagine the weather over here in the UK is somewhat different to the weather I had adapted to over in Dubai. For ten glorious months I have had the pleasure in encasing my tootsies in open toed perfection without any weather appropriate forward planning.

Arriving off the airplane in what I thought was chic ensemble, (which consisted of a pair of Nicholas Kirkwood tassel platforms) I was greeted by a howling gale and my mum dressed in wellingtons and a water proof Barbour jacket. ‘I’ve brought your Hunters, you’re going to need them’ were the words that came out of her mouth before she even said hello. My sister, dressed in a woolly hat and on trend desert boots looked at me like I was an alien.
Being reunited with my (now 236!) babies was a bitter sweet experience. After the oohs and ahhs and (I’m ashamed to say kisses) It began to dawn on me how many of the colourful pairs would have to be resigned to their boxes again. Fully glittered Charlotte Olympia’s – back in the box, vintage black and white suede stilettos – back in the box. In fact I wrapped up nearly three quarters of my beauties back in their tissue and put them to sleep until spring comes round again.
Winter is a difficult time for footwear, especially in the countryside as you don’t just have the rain to contend with but you also have mud. With this in mind my most recent purchase, a beautiful pair of paint and leather Kurt Geiger’s may seem a little fool hardy, but you can be rest assured that I did have my sensible head on when I bought them. Not only are they effortlessly chic, stylish and (surprisingly) comfy but paint and leather wipes clean, which is especially useful when your dog decides to get stuck down a rabbit on a impromptu stroll down the lane on your lunch break.
